Hardwood INSTALLATION

Before your hardwood installation

Prior to your new hardwood installation, there are plenty of helpful steps you can take to ensure a smooth process. Start by removing all furniture from the rooms and closets that are getting new hardwood, as well as any electronics or hanging wall items. Since genuine wood floors cannot be installed over an existing flooring type, the current floors will need to be removed entirely and disposed of properly. Make sure to complete any new painting or touch-ups in the room beforehand. Once your subfloor has been professionally assessed, and any needed repairs have been made, you are ready for new hardwood flooring! Hardwood planks will need to acclimate to the household conditions for at least 48 hours before installation begins.

During hardwood installation

On the day of your hardwood installation, make sure an adult is home and on-hand to answer any questions that may arise for your installers. Designate an area in the home for the installation crew to keep saws and hardwood installation tools, keep hardwood planks before they are installed, and to saw planks as needed. Keep all children and pets away from the rooms receiving new hardwood, as well as the worker’s area.

After hardwood installation

Once your new wood floors are installed, now is the time to walk through with your installers and ask any questions you may have. It’s important to wait for the specified time period before walking on your new hardwood or returning furnishings to the room. When returning furniture, always lift pieces or use proper moving equipment with wheels to avoid scratching the floors. Also, we recommend using felt protectors under the legs of heavier pieces to reduce impact.
